Curbside Recycling begins April 1, 2015
Colwyn Residents can now enjoy Curbside Recycling!
Beginning Wednesday, April 1, 2015, Recyclables will be picked up at your door! Colwyn Borough awarded a three year contract to our current trash collector, Suburban Waste Services. Suburban has Single Stream Recycling which means….ALL recyclables go into 1 container!
Recyclables will be picked up EVERY WEDNESDAY. Please place your recyclables in a separate trash container. Recyclables should be placed at the normal spot where you place your trash containers. Please place the containers outside no later than 6:00 AM each Wednesday.
Single Stream Recyclables include cardboard, paper, junk mail, newspapers, office paper, anything that tears. Beverage and food containers (plastic, metal, glass or aluminum).
We are in the process of searching for grants to purchase containers for each home. Until this time, you may use your regular trash container for the recyclables.
Please take a few moments to visit Suburban Waste Services’s website for useful information on Recycling. There is also a short video clip that demonstrates where your recyclables go! http://suburbanwasteservices.com/recycling-single-stream/
Thank you to Colwyn Borough for your recycling efforts!
Trash and Garbage
Trash and garbage must be placed for pick up in sturdy containers with lids that can withstand the attack of rats, dogs, cats and wild animals. Trash and garbage should be secured so the winds will not blow the trash through your yard (or your neighbors).
Plastic bags are acceptable provided they are placed outside after 6:00 A.M. the morning of the trash pick up
. Trash and garbage containers may be placed outside after 9:00 P.M. the night before the trash pick up. Collection is on Monday and Thursday, except on holidays, when it will be collected the first working day after the holiday.
Trash and garbage must be put out no later than 6:00 A.M. the day of collection.
Bulk Trash pick ups are on MONDAYS ONLY. You may place 3 large items out for bulk pick up. Please do NOT place any TV’s or Electronics out for bulk. These are considered Household Hazardous Waste and can only be taken to specific sites. Home Depot accepts TV’s at no charge. The Delaware County Emergency Services Training Center on Calcon Hook Road will have their collection day on Saturday April 25th. You may take your items to the Training Center on that day.
Please visit the Delaware County Household Hazardous Waste site for more information. http://www.co.delaware.pa.us/recycle/hhw.html
Please contact Borough Hall for any questions or concerns about trash collection.
Effective January 24, 2013:
The Covered Device Recycling Act of 2010 includes desktop computers, laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals and televisions. On January 24, 2013, the Landfill Disposal Ban goes into effect. How does this affect you?
- Residents are not permitted to dispose of these items in their weekly trash pick-up.
- Residents should look for ways to dispose of their covered devises in one of the following manners: (1) Retailers that sell these products are not permitted to collect a fee for disposal; (2) E-waste programs offered by Delaware County in conjunction with Hazardous Waste Collection Events; (3) Local business or municipalities offering disposal days
- Trash haulers may not intentionally accept these devices. Be advised that these haulers can leave the devices curbside and the resident would be responsible for any code violations and disposal.
